Founder Labs is coming to NYC

Logo Founder Labs has been alive and thriving in SF for some time and this summer they are launching a program in NYC.  I am supporting their efforts with a small investment as well as being a mentor.

The program will last from May 21 – June 29th running Monday – Friday evenings and weekends which is a bonus for many women.  They will select about 15 hackers, engineers, designers, marketing and business mavens to develop high-growth mobile ventures in NYC.  You can apply individually or as a partnership.  Their motto is they build teams and validate ideas.

A great group of people have signed up to mentor including Janet Hanson founder of 85 Broads, Jim Robinson of RRE and Esther Dyson of ED Ventures.

Founder Labs has already done this successfully in SF.  Here is what you can expect the group to look like.  50/50 male/female split, 10 engineers/developers, 5 designers and 5 business/marketing mavens.

Another reason why NYC is the place to be these days.  Calling all entrepreneurs to sign up and build a mobile start-up business.

Very cool, I’ve been pushing the need for something like this for awhile, didn’t know it existed.I like that Startup Weekend encourages people to be entrepreneurial and get something launched, but a weekend just isn’t enough time, so it often feels like the things that come out (when they are web/internet ideas) should just be hackathon hacks rather than trying to cram all the other important stuff into the first weekend.

exactly. it is like an “e-school” which is like having an evening class.

Very cool that your’re investing and mentoring.I’ve never worked on a project with 50% women (16 years in high tech). A few years ago i was volunteering with a charter school project and it was almost all women + me for much of the project. Such a different experience – and a good one in many ways. The nights + weekends aspect is very practical for talented people who have families and mortgages but want to start new tech business.I’m sure NYC is great and all 😉 ..it would be awesome to see a founder labs session in Portland OR someday 🙂

Yesterday, I submitted my application. But I never got an email confirmation. I sure hope it got there! Is there a way you can send a receipt for the application?
